Unfortunately, even the 749 will stop racing - Ducati has stopped manufacture.
Problem is that Ducati needs to sell about 15,000 units in the US to justify the cost of racing when AMA rules are different to the rest of the world. They forecast sales of 6,500 in 2007.
I'd love to see a situation where rules in all major championships were unified, allowing 1000 fours, 1100 triples and 1200 twins, all with limited modification. Then we might see KTM & BMW come in with twins, and possibly even Triumph with a triple.
It would be great but will it happen? Not a chance.

WSBK » WSBK to USA

Following a three year absence, the World Superbike championship will return to the USA next season - after reaching a multi-year agreement with Miller Motorsports Park, in Utah.

Yes, im excited for it coming to the US too. Thats 3 big events a year now.

Cant see it going back to japan though. I watched an old japanese WSBK round on dvd (back when edwards was winning on his SP2). The wildcards dominated leaving the regular frontrunners fighting it our for 7th. Not many regualr series riders would want to go back to that?

While I would prefer WSBK to go to Barber (we could still get Barber in 08 too) Miller is a great racetrack and should be a good venue for WSBK.

As for WSBK going back to Japan I would love to see them do Sugo, Autopolis, or Suzuka. Suzuka of course might be too dangerous but Sugo and Autopolis are two great venues. I think the concern about wildcard riders stealing the show is bunk. If you are a WSBK regular you should be able to beat the wildcard riders. And if a wildcard rider does well maybe that will be his ticket to move up to the big show. Makoto Tamada got on the world stage in exactly that fashion.

Plus don't forget not many in the JSB series will be running Pirellis, so there wont be many eligible wildcards.

Never fully understood all the problems Motogp and WSBK have had with securing US rounds, but good to see them both back there. Might even take a holiday over there to take in the Utah race.
Good luck to them.

it was also announced, but not on this press release, that they are using separate track configs for WSB and AMA. One reason is that they didn't want a direct comparison between lap times. What are they afraid of? What are they hiding? Weak Pirelli tires maybe?

Afraid of?

Think you'll find it's the AMA boys who don't want them to show how slow half of their field is.

Whilst the top 6 in AMA could do a job as Wild cards I cannot see their bikes being quicker than the WSBK ones.

Hodgson used to complain how slow his AMA Ducati was in relation to his WSBK which was an older model.

I think this is great news. I'm canadian and this as close as we'll ever get to sbk or motogp! there was supposed to be a canadian sbk event in 06 but it was cancelled. Oh well, miller is beautiful and I agree that I can't believe that barber hasn't got a international race. It probably would have been a better choice for motogp to go there rather than indianapolis.
