''i think id pick carl as a rider over troy, but rather have a beer with troy anyday.

the way carl made a ducati work was brilliant, almost as good to watch as chili whos flowing style is excellent. but chili had the take the brain out Gene which is why he never won a title(tho he only ever had one factory duke-98)

they are all great really, tho i dont think moto gp or wsbk has had the strength of competition that wsbk had during that period of 96-2001.''

This has got to be a wind up surely :-o. Bayliss had more talent in the finger he left at Donnington than Foggy had in his whole body fact..

Jack, good to see you're still alive out there. I come back occasionally to read Crash and note that intelligent comment is becoming ever more rare and decide yet again that I do not wish to venture onto the field of Colchis. There is a site where your comments would be appreciated, one for conversations by adults, of which I hope you are aware. Obviously I'll not mention the name as I don't want to see it swamped in the same bilge, and I know you'll understand why... think a lowlands origin with a name reminiscent of a Russian composer...

Foggy always had the displacement advantage against the 750's on all 4 titles. Bayliss' second title was the 999 against all of the inline 1000's, pretty impressive I would say. And remember, Bayliss went to Daytona for the first time and got pole, then went to the next race Infineon Raceway for the first time and got pole there too before he got drafted to WSBK. Also, Bayliss' second MOTOGP race at S. Africa, he led that race got passed by Rossi and then passed him back many times. Bayliss did the same at Brno remember? Foggy never did that. Bayliss would of got rookie of the year that year had he not had too many DNF'S. Hayden got rookie of the year and he didn't even lead 1 race.

One more thing, Bayliss beat everyone in MOTOGP at Valencia. Foggy never did that.

'One more thing, Bayliss beat everyone in MOTOGP at Valencia. Foggy never did that.'

That's right, Bayliss' Valencia win was awesome, and Foggy never won a GP, but then the GP's were run on light and brutal 500cc two strokes, so it was very different from the heavy and underpowered superbikes Foggy was usually riding. Foggy certainly is a hugely talented rider, fast on the IOM Mountain Course, fast on the UK short circuits, fast on the world's best tracks, but once he steps off the bike and he opens his big mouth, he is less than nobody...

I believe Troy Corser was then, in the late nineties, better than Foggy, as shown by his amazing performances in 1995, 1996 and 1998 in WSB

It peeves me to see everyone argue over who was the best when you all leave out perhaps the greatest motorcyclist of all time f1 roadracing champion 5 times winner of an unbeatable 26 TT's the last one at the tender age of 49 I refere of course to the late great Joey Dunlop how dare leave him out of a
string relating to the greatest racers of any type.

It's usually irrelevant to mention any Ducati WSB rider in "greatest" stat's, imho Troy Bayliss is exactly like Fogarty, very determined etc, but in that if you took him off a Ducati he would do next to nothing, indeed if you visit his website it seems that 2005 (Honda MGP) never actually existed!. As i said, like Fogarty he's a product of unfair rules skewed in favour of a small Italian company by an Italian run championship. I've always been a massive Haga fan & as much as i yearn for him to win the title, i can't bring myself to get enthusiastic about him being on a Duke next season.

I remember seeing Bayliss on the original 990 ducati screamer and thinking 'what a nutter'. It was an awesome sight (and sound!!). Great bloke too, and he had class. WSBK and many if its fans will miss him.

In terms of pure riding ability, Rossi is clearly the greatest of recent times, and probably the greatest ever. We are all priviledged to be able to see him at work.
