If he *chose* to sit out testing he chose to be underdog.

Only I don't think chose is what he did.
I reckon they're near skint and sitting out was the only way to have the resources for the race weekend.

Big pity. Great bike, great rider, decent team, handicapped by funding. If anyone ever wanted to maximise their sponsorship impact this has to be a golden opportunity for 'em.

WSBK » Byrne: I am the underdog

Despite dominating pre-season testing, Shane Byrne is certain he will be an underdog when racing begins in Australia.

Anyone got any idea the difference between Shakeys bike and the Xerox bikes, as I did hear that the bikes were his old 2008 BSB bikes with updates. The only problem with this is that if he beats the factory bikes will he get any updates later in the season.I doubt it somehow.I think all he can do is be realistic and just race as hard as he can and upset a few of the established names so as team managers take note for 2010. He will be best privateer without doubt.

Dont take this as "fact", think the main difference between the bikes is Sterilgarda don't have the latest fly by wire technology. Up-dates?? If he constantly betters the xerox bikes, will the factory "back" Byrne further if the title is "within his sights?? Like to think so!! Go Shakey!!!!!!! :)

A good year for shakey (top 6 overall) will all but guarantee a xerox ride in 2010 - and he certainly wouldn't be an underdog then!!

Hey Spies and Haga are my favourites outright! but Shakey is the unknown factor..by that I mean his equipment and his support structure! A champion Team not being able to make a test right before the race at the very track...dropping a rider for first races. The team is obviously tight for cash and that could and may be Shakey's downfall...I don't doubt that Ducati will back Shakey..but will the Team have the funds to keep him competitive??!! That is my main reason for not considering him for the championship..maybe a race win here and there! Shakey should have been on a Ducati Factory Team..but at who's expense I don't know because Fabrizio and Haga are doing the business right now!

Here's an idea.....Shakey to Suzuki in place of Yukio Kagayama....to me this is the worst performing rider right now looking at the chances he has been given! I mean Ducati dropped Toseland after one poor season where he finished 5th (I think) and the talented yet underperforming Yukio still here after 3 years of crap. I mean yeah he's won here and there but no consistency and he crashes more than any other rider out there...maybe more than De puniet in MotoGP! and his crashes are always bad where he misses a few races and has no chance for a championship contention! How about that for an idea!

He might win a couple of races this year (Donington......maybe), but coming anywhere
near the title? Dreaming.
He can only put in a good showing to try and
pick up a factory ride next year.
He will NEVER win the title in a privateer team.
Nobody has against factory opposition!

He will be the best of the privateers though.
