What was it that some were saying about "lets not get carried away with how good this guys is"?.....he'd never seen the circuit before and he does this! Maybe the bike has something to do with it, but whatever, he is seriously impressive. Toseland must be parping himself.

I think Spies is a gent, and an intelligent and grounded one at that. He's being tactful and diplomatic, he'd be tempting fate by writing his rivals off this early and not showing them due respect. Obviously the same applies in reverse...

Anyone who has followed Spies through his AMA championships can attest to the fact that Ben's attitude never changes. He's always pretty positive and has great respect for everyone on the Grid. I Don't think you have to worry about pressure affecting him either as he has went down to the wire season after season in AMA for the championship. I think he is the real deal and will continue his strong performances throughout the year.

Two new tracks, two pole positions. This guy is amazing. Is there anyone who would bet money against him being champ this year or next?

Spies fans shouldn't be crowning him yet. Plus don't account his current success just to his talent as I think he's probably has the best bike on the circuit plus his team has a ton of data on all the circuits from past riders Haga and Corser. Also Corser is known for his development talents that more than likely helped with the '09 bike so I'm sure Spies is benefiting from that as well. The competition is "tough" comment is just a game he's an arrogant a-hole. Hope he loses!

marc,
As the corner exit grunt obviously shows, the Yamaha is significantly down on low-end power to the Ducati (plus or minus 10 bhp? as one would expect), and also giving many kph's on the top to the Suzuki, both which are quite a bit more important at a track like Qatar than the R1's nimble handling.
Your arrogance is exceeded only by your ignorance.
Show some respect to the future world champ. (Maybe, maybe not this year, but its in the cards, don't fool yourself)
I, like many, thought Spies might've been a big fish in a small pond in the AMA. And couldnt be more happy i was wrong. Go Ben!

Makes me wonder how well Matt Maladin would have done, if some WSB team had signed him on in his prime!
