So that about settles the whole BSB vs AMA thing. Perfect weekend and near-perfect racecraft.

I really don't see how Europe is going to be any different. As the ES gents put it "...we just didn't want him to be this good."

FWIW some of us knew this was coming - and are enjoying this spectacle!

I just read where Spies admits the going will get tougher at the European tracks. The next three rounds - Valencia, Assen and Monza - should favor the Ducati and maybe the Aprilia a little more.

If Spies can gain on Haga in those races it could be a long season for everyone but Spies.

What a ridiculous comment from dethklokrules. Spies has made a fan out of me, but i do not see how this settles any BSB/AMA debate. BSB has a far greater depth in field and the only rider from BSB who is on a bike that can rival Spies is his garage mate Sykes, who incidentally got to grips with the Yamaha this weekend. Europe will be hard for Spies but i bet he remains fast and consistent.

this is in a way a nod to the tough
schooling Matt Mladin established in AMA superbike, Spies worked with tough benchmarks largely ignored out side the US and also strangely ignored by Suzuki who are involved with a self-butt-kicking fest in HQ
this weekend I would imagine.

All intercontinental BS aside SB,
I think it is great that Ben shows respect to the other riders he races, take that as an example. Oh and what a fantastic raw sound that new R1 has, I love the roar as it pulls out of the pits, it is like err... the M1! :)

Dethklokrules - The last 4 races haven't told us anything about BSB v AMA, but they have told us plenty about Ben Spies and how well he can ride a superbike. I have been impressed with every aspect of Spies behaviour including off the bike - he is a sponsors dream.

I am glad he is now with Yamaha because when he goes to MotoGP he will be on a competitive bike - which he would not be on a Suzuki. I wonder if he was offerred the Suzuki ride, but turned it down - reportedly he had multiple offers from several series - so that may be possible. Whatever the case Suzukis loss is Yamahas gain and Bens gain.

oi morgue.....that cant be right....i'm sure that i read on this site and all the rossi fans tell anyone who will listen, that the M1 he rode to the championship was no more than a mid 70's RD 250 M.O.T. failure.

great to see such a great talente emerge.... but i hope the others can chalenge a litle bit more .... or we can have a season of spies runing in 5 seconds in front of nori and one or two riders and the rest of the field coming some 20 or 30 seconds off..... and that's not what we want to see.
I'm also very glad to see that Yamaha have built such a great bike, shoing that the technology devoloped in Moto gp is the way to go.... and sounds great, long bang....
