It's a testament to Spies' skill and talent as a rider, and to the brand new R1 that they can be this competitive, really. The Yamaha team is doing decently, and Tom Houseworth is Ben's ace in the hole. (Anybody see similarities between this duo and another famous pairing for Yamaha?)

Ben may not win the title at seasons end, but he's more than given notice that he's a force to be reckoned with. Kudos to the young man for that.

In a previous post someone posted that Ben Spies has given away a possible 125 points. Some his own fault and some bad luck, the scary thing is he is still 59 points in front of his team mate Tom Sykes.
Not 100% sure but I don't think that Tom has had any DNF's so far, I haven't seen much of him this year - nearly forgotten what he looks like.

Yankee is an endearing term to many of us in the states, as it harkens back to the Revolutionary War.

Kyalami was such a rough track yet you can see the Ducati's suspension soaking it up much better than the Yamaha. Plus in acceleration the Ducati has an edge. The faster and smoother the track the better the Yamaha performs.

Miller is a smooth fast track that Spies is familiar with. Haga has enough of a points cushion that he's apt to ride a bit more conservative, as a crash is his biggest threat right now to winning the championship. I wouldn't doubt that Yamaha will offer Spies a bonus to win in the biggest motorcycle market in the world, so I stand by Spies winning the double.

Spies was born in Memphis and that is still considered the South - so being called a Yankee is still insulting. Alright - let's let that one die.

Miller has two configurations - short and long. I'm not sure if the AMA guys ever ran on the same configuration as the WSBK guys. Spies has won on the AMA configuration though so who knows. You never know what'll happen. Checa pulled the double last year while Bayliss crashed out. Sykes, Rea, or Haslam could pull a double - they are young and hungry. Spies, Haga, and Fab could pull a big goose egg.

I would assume the typo should have read SHIFT lever and not S*H*I*T lever. Hilarious typo, no?! That's almost too good to make up!

I don't think it's a typo. My bet is it's a direct quote from Ben when he rolled into the pits and they asked him what's wrong. :-o

I agree with the people about being more positive regarding all the riders etc...We should all be thankful that Spies and all the other new riders are there and making this an exciting year for WSBK.The Ducatis are starting to show that they are the most developed, best all around package,( which everyone expects nowadays) but you have to give credit to Spies for riding the crap out of the new Yamaha. Not taking anything away from any of the other riders, but Spies accomplishments so far are amazing and his sportsmanship is second to none.Hopefully Yamaha will get the bugs worked out so we can have some battles again like Assen!!!By the way, Spies will do the double at Miller!I'll bet ya!!!!

All things considered its truly a shame that Francis Batta didn't break the bank to try and bring Spies to Suzuki on a WSBK spec GSXR. There's no doubt that bike is a bullet and in the right hands would be every bit the equal if not the better of the 1198. Not taking anything away from Haga as we all know his skills are incredible but I for one would love to wonder what the situation would have been had the Ben been on the Zook.

The Yamaha is a better bike than the suzuki that's obvious.

Since this year, if you want to win at least one race you must have a Twin or a crossplane 4 cylinders or a V4.

Flatplane's 4 cylinders will be part of the past in a forseeable futur... That's obvious.....as well :)
