After this year Spies will have "EXPERIENCE" on practically all of the tracks the MotoGP guys run on. Lets take a quick look at what he has done on the 2 tracks he actually had experience on this year... Complete Anhilitation over guys who have raced there for years! If you are vain enough to believe that this kid wont be competitive in MotoGP you need to snap to, before you wet the bed!

The one clear message he has sent to every team owner in the world is that he can adapt rapidly to a new bike, team, tires and tracks at the drop of a hat, and be the fastest guy at nearly every freaking one of them! That kids, is lightning in a bottle and all of them want it, price no object!

It's all over. With Haga hurt, no one will touch Spies through the end of the year. I was rooting for Haga to win the championship, but with that horrible get off, I don't see it happening. Spie's pace is just too fast from the get go. It was remarkable that Biaggi hung with him in race 1. Truly a gutsy performance by Aprilia and Biaggi.

Ben Spies your 2009 WSBK Champion.

"Would someone please tell when was the last time the British have a champoin in the GP???? way back in the 80s????"

Er, there is this thing on the internet called "google". It's amazing what you can find out with it!

Seriously, the last Brit champion in any GP class was Sheene in '76 and '77. Bradley Smith has a great chance of breaking that duck in 125cc this year.

I hope he isn't on some Duc in motoGP next season.

He could always remain as he is, on the Yamaha in WSBK and try to lure folks to this popular and diverse championship. I would love to see Rossi and Spies on the same or similar bikes in WSBK for a season or three.

enough wishful thinking

It would be a legendary period. Sadly, if Rossi left, MotoGP would be a ghost town.

Until yesterday, I thought Haga would hang on to win the WSB crown. Now I think it will be Spies' to lose. Wonder what plans Yamaha have for him next year. If he doesn't win this year, Yamaha will make sure he wins next year with all the resources at his disposal with a full factory Tech3 bike in Motogp in 2011 (possibly)

Now I am not so sure. Could he end up on a satellite Honda next year cos Honda must be desperate to win a championship and Spies could do it long term.

Having said that Motogp is full of the graves of ex-WSB champs who couldn't cut it. Whats to say Spies will be any different ?

If Ben wins the title this year you can expect to see him on the Tech 3 Yamaha with Colin Edwards. Toseland is all but gone from MotoGP, and in fact has been rumored to have signed back with Ten Kata already.

Tough to say... Even Bayliss couldn't deliver in MotoGP--save one victory. Edwards is another example of a guy that was incredible on a superbike but average on a prototype. Spies "seems" to have the speed of Stoner or Lorenzo... but Rossi is another story. Will Spies be any different? Only one way to find out.

Quite true in most cases and possible for Spies. But I believe highly unlikely in Spies case. He is likely to become a WSBK Rookie Champion with more wins and Poles in one season that most other Racers can only dream of over an entire career.

I hope he stays with WSBK for at least another season. The MotoGP Teams with their infinite wisdom overlooked him last year so he should just let them all stew for at least another year. Basically tell them all to go to h3ll.

Win or lose I hope The Ben goes to MotoGP as Colin's team mate.

The marketing would be amazing for them...The Ben would only be expected to get a few podiums and be top 6 at the end of the year so it would be a great learning year. If he does better it would confirm him to move to the factory bike in 2011.

He can always go back and kick the snot of the WSBK guys later.
