I've said it before. I can't see Ben going to MotoGP. It's only logical. Why go to a series where the machinery determines the running order? A boring series at that!

World Superbikes, bar none, is the best to watch, with the best real world riders on the best production based machines.

If you want MotoGP to shine brighter than WSBK, take their traction control down a few notches and bring back the 990 displacement. You know, it's a pleasure to delete the MotoGP races off my DVR these days.

Spies is intelligent and if the logic is clear enough, he'll stay right where he is with Yamaha.

And, thank you, Ben. We are witnessing something beautiful with your skills.

It's pretty simple actually. He'll take the vacant seat from James Toseland at tech3 to form a Texas Hurricane Category 5 with Colin Edwards at Yamaha :) :) :)

To reward him for and celebrate his WSBK title, Yamaha will offer him JT's ride in Valencia. A Troy Bayliss performan,ce coming up ??? :) :) :) :)

I thought I would add, from Yamaha's perspective where would Spies be of the most use to them? As a third or fourth rider in MotoGP or as the Terminator in WSBK?

What is his worth in each series?

What would it cost to beat him if he left Yamaha?

If Ben was on, say, Xerox Ducati in WSBK 2010, how many $$$ would it take Yamaha to have a chance at beating him? Who would they hire and what would he cost? Maybe Biaggi or Haga or Mladin, but they don't ride for beer money.

@Bruce,

In soup, Roberts Jr. talks about why he quit mid year and turned the bike over to Kurtis. The 800 is a bike for fly weights and he reckons Vale will be the last lanky champion in MotoGP. Of course we now have Moto2
which seems at cross purposes but then Honda had no 250cc bike in the class. Spies should stay in WSBK for one thing cachetwise it's on a par with MotoGP. :?

I would prefer he goes to Tech3, the YZR-M1 suites his Style, and It would help alot his carrer, I am afraid if he goes to Suzuki and Honda. Their bike is not as comepetitive as that of the M1, and I am afraid it would only ruin Spies chance interms of making an impact in MOTOGP

It's already been reported that JT is in discussion with Ten Kate, so he looks to be WSBK bound. Surely Yamaha would have to consider offering him a seat in WSBK too? His track record there is beyond reproach.
It has also been reported that Colin may be off to WSBK with Aprilia. That could mean 2 vacant Tech 3 seats and I'm pretty sure Spies will be expected to take one of them.

Spies would be a good fit in MotoGP. Apart from being American and a fearsomely fast rider, he also follows the usual post race routine of giving very boring interviews while looking like he isn't the slightest bit interested. I like his racing much more than I like watching him post race.

If anybody doubts the importance of the post race interviews etc, tell me why the most popular racer ever is Valentino Rossi. He still bubbles with mischief and enthusiasm and thats why everyone loves him. Mick Doohan also rode like a god but he was a dour bloke and never generated the kind of fanbase that Rossi has. Spies might do well to consider how Vale deals with press and fans.

I think the clue is in Spies chassis/suspension mechanic being added to the team. Set up is more technical in motogp & having not only his crew chief, but also his chassis mechanic being brought in I think to prep him to can only mean motogp. Where since Spies wants a chance on winning, a tech 3 factory supported ride or mabye suzuki but I see little chance of success at suzuki.

The signs are that he's staying in WSBK.
1) It's too early in the season for MotoGP teams like Tech 3 to dismiss any of their riders, so Spies wouldn't be able to announce a MotoGP slot "soon enough".
2) In an interview with Eurosport on Sunday, he said that he and the WSBK Yamaha team were already making plans for next year.
3) In the same interview, he said there had been 'interest from both sides' in him staying in the Yamaha WSBK squad.
4) Why would Nakajima take such an interest in helping Toseland perform in MotoGP if it had already been decided he was out in favour of Spies?
Looks very much like WSBK again to me. (But I reserve the right to be 100% wrong!)
