The guy is 7th in the championship ahead of waaaay more experienced riders. If this was any other year and if Spies wasn't his teammate, Sykes would be viewed much more highly. He's doing a very good job for a regular rookie. No, he's not Spies, but who is?

Naw! Toseland will do a swap with Spies. :) Lorenzo and Rossi will remain in MotoGP.
Then when rossi completes his 123 wins he will go to WSB for fun.
Wishful thinking :) :) :)

"HOT OFF THE PRESS!!! Ben Spies with Yamaha till 2011 (motosprint.it)"

Hmmm. Not sure that article tells us very much. So he's going to stay in WSBK *unless* he wins the title OR *unless* JL goes to HRC. That much we knew already, just as we know he isn't going to go to MotoGP on anything less than a factory machine. Basically then, his options are still wide open.

As for Tom, it's hard to see him fending off Crutchlow for that ride unless he brings home some podiums.

Raw, I'm not sure that Yamaha's racing bosses will be as kind as you. Sykes is on a top factory machine yet hasn't managed to podium yet (unlike Haslam on an arguably inferior machine). Nor has he even *looked* like getting a podium - even at his home round, where he might be expected to at least threaten for one. Given Crutchlow's dominance in WSS and his proven record on a superbike, it's almost inconceivable that he won't be moved up a class next year - quite possibly at Sykes' expense. Harsh perhaps, but a likely scenario given both riders' relative performances.

He's behind Spies, Haga, Fabrizio, Haslam, Rea, and Biaggi. Who is he suppose to be better than? Haslam and Rea have seen the tracks before. And surely no one expected him to be in front of Haga or Fabrizio on the factory Ducatis and Biaggi is well Biaggi - he has more experience in his little finger than Sykes.

"Given Crutchlow's dominance in WSS"

When has WSS become the proving ground for success? All I see in WSS is a bunch of "never has or never will be" big bike riders. The only one besides Cruthclow that I have any reguard for is Laverty. Crutchlow will be ok but personally I don't rate WSS at all. The only person to have any kind of success from WSS was Chris Vermulen.

I can see WSS becoming an increasingly well thought of championship with a lot of younger riders seeing it as a way into one of two championships...

Rea started (well Tommy Hill did before but didn't have any luck or success) it by going down a class from BSB to WSS so he could get into WSB. He's now doing ok although not as well as i expected...but in any case my comment applies whether he is taking the world by storm or not.

The other route, and potentially much more interesting one is that racing WSS gives you a chance at proving yourself for Moto2.

WSS is great to watch and now we are going to see some true up and coming racers using it to get noticed EXCELLENT Smithers! :)

Sykes is the 2nd Yamaha and the 3rd is 20th. So, the choices are 1- Sykes is doing pretty well, 2- The Yamah is like the Ducati in MotoGP and only one guy can ride it, or 3- Spies is greatest rider since Jesus. I say Sykes is doing well, the Yamaha is good enough but not best, and Spies is special but human. Or maybe an alien.

much as i like sykes,he has not done enough to deserve the ride.rookies should show flashes of brilliance in their first season, all the prospects do,alas sykes has not once shown flashes of speed anywhere,if he needs to get up front and fall off once or twice,do it,as the great schwantz said,if you dont crash youre not tryin hard enough.he needs to at least get up there and stop bumbling around in the lower top 10.
