The guy is 7th in the championship ahead of waaaay more experienced riders. If this was any other year and if Spies wasn't his teammate, Sykes would be viewed much more highly. He's doing a very good job for a regular rookie. No, he's not Spies, but who is?

Who would want Spies as a teammate ? Even if you're very good he's going to make you look very average.

He came from 23rd in a race having more crashes than passes. I'm not trying to take away from anyone here, just saying, if he was the next greatest thing THIS was the weekend to show it. He did not. He ran well, but it wasn't a TV drawing experience.

Hacking actually did something at his home round. Granted the other races didn't do much for him, but on the track he was most familiar with he did show why he was chosen to ride that green piece of junk.

Also, starting from so far back also says something. I know the superpole format does some strange things, but again, his home track, on a "winning" bike, I expected more.

Nice ride from 23rd to right behind factory though!

I think Sykes will keep his seat. Camier, Crutchlow & Laverty are unknown quantities. WSS riders have done NOTHING on the SBK stage and Camier didn't shine at Donnington. One or two rostrums for Sykes will allow him to keep his ride.

Ex SS riders have done nothing??? Jonny Rea won at Misano if I recollect and has had other podiums besides, easily outperforming his more experienced team-mates.
Camier didn't shine at Donington because he destroyed his bike on Friday and they had to use the spare bike he shares with Ellison for qualifying then race a cobbled together unit in the race. The spare bike has a superstock spec engine, near as damn it, and is essentially a spares mule.
It did show up how thin the veneer is on these BSB teams that appear on the surface to be big budget...HMplant have no spare bikes and have halved their engineering staff this year, but hospitality doesn't appear diminished!

Toseland will be heading back to WSBK next year, Melandi to Fiat, Lorenzo to follow the money to HRC, Crasher Dani Pedrosa or Div to leave to satellite team. Spies to win WSBK title as Haga Chokes. Two Texans riding for Tech 3, though with Spies on full factory version. Then Melandi and Spies will switch seats in 2011.

Haga to choke again in 2010 and Biaggi with a second year on the Aprilia to win the WSBK title.

Sykes to finish 5th in standings in WSBK on the Factory yamaha with Spies leaving. Toseland to yamaha finishing 3rd in standing in 2010... So that's it no need to watch racing for the next year and half. Sorry to spoil it for all of you.

You talk about unknow quantities but didn't crutchlow finish a place higher than sykes last year. i feel the seats should have been contracted the other way around. As for camier he is now winning the championship because the four men who finished in front of him left to wsb. Laverty would be interesting to see on a superbike.

FYI
Donington 2008, race 1 Tom 2nd Cal binned it,and was catching TB, but got thrown by the slippy track flag and backed off, as it means pace car out in BSB
race 2 Cal 2nd Tom 10th
Brands HM plant didn't enter Tom's bike stopped in first race when in 5th but had been as high as third I think, second race finnished 7th,
it was these results that got him the ride, and also the Suzuki he was on was more of a super stock bike not a full spec WSB, as BSB rules were different last year,

"I know it won't happen but I'd love to see Mladin on the 2nd Yamaha. It would be the "Ben & Matt Show" again, on an international level."

HA! I swear I would pay money to see that. Mladin & Spies doing the 2 man show in WSBK would make for the best comedy I've ever seen, and the funniest part about it is it would probably happen exactly like that if they were both in WSBK.

Alas, that will in all likelihood never happen, but man would that be the show of all shows. For those who aren't aware of what we're referring too, picture the Rossi/Lorezo race in Catalunya or the Rossi/Stoner race at Laguna Seca last year happening every weekend.

God that would so rock.
