Don't think that this guy isn't benefitting from being teammates with the Best guy out there. If it were Sykes and anybody else outside the top 4 or 5 guys on this team with these bikes this year, I seriously doubt he'd be any more than a top 8 or 9 finisher. Not trashing the guy, he just ain't there yet. He could get there, but it obviously isn't going to be a lightning bolt experience or it probably would've happened by now. Still, top seven at this point in the season is pretty good - and in front of some heavy hitters.

WSBK » Sykes: I’m closing gap on the front now

Tom Sykes says he has plenty of positives to take into the latter stages of the 2009 World Superbike Championship after finishing mid-season testing at Imola inside the top five.

He will finish in 7th place this weekend. Mark my words. Just kidding but he's not going to break into the top five no matter what he does

He has moved up the field no doubt. You have to think the team data from this test was very valuable. Did Tom get closer to Ben with a Q tire while Ben did his times consistently on race rubber?

It would be a good thing for him to get the ship righted. Spies could use a team mate taking points away from his rivals at the front.

I wonder if Ben Spies and Leon Camier are making the bike look better than it actually is?

yeah we'll see in the races thank you very much.

Cal Cruchlow for your seat next year. You back to BSB.

Cruchlow to take his seat!?!? No way. Unknown quantity WSS rider...and Camier? Who's he really racing against? BSB is a depleted field and Camier's BSB title will be the same as Hodgson's 2003 WSBK title...the best of the rest winning it because everyone else of worth has moved on to other series.

Sykes should be given one more year to see if he can hack it. It's his rookie year and he's teamed with a rider that is head and shoulders above every other rider on the grid. He's 7th now which is a damn good showing for a rookie considering the depth of the grid but he may finish better as there's still 4 more tracks to go to.

And no, I'm not a Sykes fan or British.
