Securing a test outing on the Aprilia is quite a coup for Leon, as this will be a hotly contested seat next year with riders like Vermuelen and De Angelis also in the frame. There's absolutely no reason for Leon to worry about upsetting Yamaha as they clearly have no plans for him, given that they already have a surfeit of riders with a stronger claim to a factory R1 (Toseland, Crutchlow, etc). If he can do it, a couple of solid top ten finishes would be a good way for Camier to show his potential ahead of any other riders chasing the seat.

A bit lost but there must be method behind the madness, but anyway hope it takes it to max but without testing that a tall order. Speaking of tall will he fit on it.

Well done lad! Now go do us proud. As for height, if Simoncelli can fit on it, Leon will have no worries.

Nice oppurtunity for Leon, although I hope it doesn't do his chances for rides next season any harm by riding in a more competitive championship where more than a handful of riders have won a race this season.

Sic is 6ft, so a couple of inches more shouldn't harm Shafter's chances of fitting on the bike too much.

Is this a tryout for the Aprilia WSBK team for 2010, or is this the team help that Spies has been looking for? Was it impossible for Merigalli to get Camier on a Yamaha this weekend? It's shaping up to be another interesting round.

He'll be judged more on his weekends WSBK performance, in France, than the entire season in the U.K....risky I'd say but Aprilia do at least know him from his privateer GP days..I'm not overly informed as regards his employment for next year, I just hope it's not pinned on this outing.
Camier's grown a good few inches since he last raced the RS250 and the RSV4 chassis is v close in size..it'll be interesting to see as he is a good 3inches taller than Simoncelli..

This is a big ask with no prior testing, although its possible the riding position they must have established for Simoncelli will be somewhere near....I hope he's not expected, or expecting, to match the performance of Marco last weekend as that was truly exceptional....but here's hoping he goes well...target has got to be finishing in the top 10 and beating any other Brits he can, but I can't see him troubling Max under these circumstances, just not enough seat time to adapt.

VRob - according to today's MCN Vermeulen has agreed terms on a 2 year deal with Kawasaki - to be signed / announced very shortly.

To the poster at the start of this thread who can't understand the madness - if you are querying Camier's pedigree - he is an ex British 125 champ, former BSS champ and reigning BSB champ.

Don't expect him to be anywhere near the leaders - he will have had no time on the bike (unlike Simoncelli) and all year in BSB he has made poor starts - not something he will be able to get away with in WSB.

I'm sure Leon is under consideration for a 2010 ride, maybe a semi-works WSB or factory BSB entry. This will indeed also be a test of whether a really tall rider can handle the Aprilia - on paper it suits short guys more, and Terry Rymer amongst others have commented that it wouldn't suit them. His efforts at Silverstone on a virtually stock bike suggest that he can do something - although Simoncelli has undoubtedly raised the bar of expectations.
