As if Herve Poncharal had anything to say about that!
Poncharal does whatever Yamaha instructs him to do. He tries to fool the journalists, and even maybe himself, but he actually decides nothing serious in his team, almost totally funded by Yamaha. His riders are paid by Yamaha, Tech3 is not paying his M1s, and Monster was directed to Tech3 by Yamaha.

Yamaha has decided Spies would get the Tech3 seat in 2010, Yamaha decided that JT was to be drafted in the WSB team with serious title hopes, and Yamaha wants JT to be competitive as soon as possible on the R1, hence JT taking part in the Portimao tests.

Poncharal is now putting emphasis on his M2 team, dropping names, but budget? Sponsor?

Can't wait to see JT on the R1. Hope he is fast from the off. Having tackled the power of the M1, R1 should come easy. Can't wait to see him competitive again. Go JT!!

Lucky guy, Yamaha seems to be going out of their way to help him out. Couple of others out their who could perform well on the R1 as well. Usually they cut ya rip their names off your leathers, kick you out the door and threaten to sue you if you bad mouth them. Glad he gets a third chance to be at the top of WSBK. Good luck

It's a big ask to fly straight from a MotoGP weekend on the other side of the world and ride a WSB test - JT's legendary physical fitness will certainly get called on!

I presume the purpose of the test is mainly to sort the basics - seat, bar and peg positions - so don't expect too much of JT at this test - it would be very unwise to throw the bike down the road going for a quick time on an unfamiliar bike. The positive thing is it suggests Yamaha are taking WSB seriously, although I suspect they will make more effort in 2010 if Spies doesn't lift the title this year.

Not a fan of James Toseland but can't help but think that he's going to be challenging for podiums after some testing on the R1.

Yamaha are gearing up for a couple years of back to back championships across the board. Looks like going on 3 years straight for motoGP (08, 09 in the bag, 10 pretty certain, maybe even 11 with lorenzo or spies if rossi goes to ducati or retires) and a 2 time WSBK champ no longer spinning his wheels in motoGP being put to better use in SBK.

I'm gonna coin this the "Yamaha Dynasty"

This is testament to how much Yamaha value their riders.

Once a Yamaha rider always a Yamaha rider.

Abe stayed on Yam his whole career

Ago rode a Yam and then ran the GP team
Same for Kenny Roberts
Same for Wayne Rainey.

Honda could learn a thing or two from these guys.

have to agree with you 100% on that about Yamaha

Didn't Honda snub Rossi's demands which led them to ceasing their relationship and said it was the RCV that won the championships

History and hindsight must be sickening to the Honda San's as only Nicky hayden managed to claim a championship with the RCV.

plus the way they treated / disrespected nicky hayden and moved their attention to pedrosa

didn't say or show much loyalty to Nicky as champion and totally developed the 800 around Pedrosa as Hayden couldn't even fit on the thing when they wheeled it out

shameful
