I can't believe I have to stick up for this guy. Tom was a f'king rookie in a world championship! He's in the top ten in the title without doing anything this past weekend. Bryne only passed him this weekend for 8th. He's been handing more experienced guys like Kiyo, Smrz, and Yukio their asses all year. You can't compare the guy with Spies - not only is Spies an unworldly talent but he's also a 3 time AMA champion with more experience in pressure situations. Tom got replaced because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Surely Yamaha would go with a 2 time Champ like JT given the opportunity and Cal had a promotion in his contract if he won WSS which he did. Sykes will be ok in WSBK

Tom Sykes finishes his one and only season with Yamaha WSB ninth in the standings, but with no podium finishes to his name.

It sure has been a tough year for Tom and to have your team-mate win the championship and yourself fail to even get one podium must be confidence zapping......and just goes to show that not everyone can ride an R1, so I am looking forward to seeing how Cal and James get on. Getting back to Tom, all I can say is that he is lucky that Paul Bird rates him so highly because on Tom's performances this year, if not for Paul, he would be back in BSB for sure IMO. Anyway, all the best for next year Tom and good luck because you have another very fast rider as your team-mate next year and he will be out to prove himself. Go Chris!

" MotoGP refugee Chris Vermeulen."
LOL, never considered riders who get bumped back to WSBK as refugees :)

Bet that injury wasn't helped by the way the marshals at Magny-Cours bundled or more like bungled him off the track after his second accident- thank goodness for British marshals and medical teams. All the best for 2010 Tom

i don't beleive for one min that the R1 is a difficult bike to ride. Not when the R1 took the BSB campionship, the French championship and the 24 hours series championship. I think Tom is just in deep water in WSBK. And if he can't get a top 3 finish on the R1, how the hell will he do it on a ZX10? Think about it! when was the last time the ZX10 finish in the top 3? I think Toms results are going to be even worse for 2010

I would rather see Broc Parkes alongside Vermeulen. Nothing against Tom but I think Broc was not bad at all when you consider how crappy his bike probably was. And it seems to me unfair to kick his out after his first not-so-bad season

What a joke. He is not worthy of WSBK and to take it away from Parkes that at
least tried on a crap bike for this year, comming up in front of all Kawasakis every time.
Anyway we will have to see how this new beaut Kawasaki will preform next year,. It might get better but so might all the other Factory bikes.
Good on Chris for getting his Million but it might be all he ever gets !!!!!!!!

Wayne Gardner disagrees with you. Details on visordown.com.

Whitham has just tested all the championship machines too, so it'll be interesting to see what he thinks.

I thought Brittish fans were hard core fans? Why is everyone attacking this guy? Spies was just the Alien in this pond. I think him being sacked from the team was down to Cal needing to move up and Toseland needing to move asisde for Spies more than Syke's results. Sykes wasn't too bad for a roockie IMHO. It's hard to see him (or anyone else) doing any better on the Kawi, but who knows...

yes Wayne labled that bike as the most difficult bike on a grid to ride, and he tested Duc, Suzuki crasher, Kwak, BMW, etc. No wonder Sykes could not come on terms with it, and would be interesing to see how JT/Cul would adopt to it.
