WSS: Pitt: I needed a bit of luck!

Andrew Pitt is savouring his second World Supersport title after benefiting from Jonathan Rea's bad luck in the penultimate round of the season at Magny-Cours, France.

The title race looked set to go down to the wire in Portugal as Rea and Pitt diced for the lead around the Nevers circuit, but when the Northern Irishman was swiped off his bike by Robbin Harms, Pitt needed just to finish to make the title his.

Duly doing what he needed to do by prevailing in a tight fight for the win with Barry Veneman and Joshua Brookes, Pitt admits he didn't even know Rea was out of contention for much of the race.

Labelling it as the luck he needed to make up for some of the misfortune he has suffered this year, Pitt was thrilled to secure another title.

“Well, you can't say I didn't win a race with this championship! Jonny missed out today and I'm sure it would've been a tough battle right to the end. I didn't actually know that he was out until I worked it out by looking at the big TV screen! I needed a bit of luck, having been taken out myself a couple of times this season.

“But I have never enjoyed a season as much as this – the team is just a fantastic bunch of guys to work for and the way everyone pulled together yesterday to put my bike back together was just typical of the spirit here. I'd like to thank Ronald and Gerrit (ten Kate) for having the faith in me and giving me such a competitive machine. I'm happy to repay that faith today.”

Pitt was confirmed as remaining with the Ten Kate Honda Supersport team last week.

It would be hard to say that REA would have beat PITT on SUNDAY but I sure wish he had to see what way things would have panned out after that
