Polita retained at Celani for season

Celani Race have confirmed that Alessandro Polita will see out the remainder of the World Superbike Championship season, replacing Karl Muggeridge.

The team began the year with the Australian, but offered his ride to Polita for Misano and Donington Park after Muggeridge suffered an injury that would keep him out of action for the two events.

However, after Polita, who raced with Celani in 2007, scored a point on his return to competition in Italy, the team have chosen to maintain the former Superstock 1000 champion for the rest of the year, team manager Daniele Carli claiming it was their intention from the outset to nurture Italian talent.

"With this operation we want to confirm what have always been our guidelines, that is to give space to young Italian talent to build an international future. Despite being hit by misfortune Alessandro has proved he deserves a Superbike and he will be the team's only rider to end the season.”

Muggeridge, a former World Supersport Champion, is currently 30th in the standings with four points.

Muggers should try to get a ride in WSS next year. That move has done wonders for Pitt and extended his expiration date by a couple of years. If Karl insists on staying in the SBK class I think that his career is done on the international stage. If he can have a good season in WSS he'll be able to extend his expiry date as well.
