Laconi to make Imola appearance

Regis Laconi has confirmed he is to make a public appearance in the World Superbike Championship paddock for the first time in four months when the series visits Imola in September.

The Frenchman will take the part of an interested spectator at the Italian circuit, Laconi joining the DFX Ducati pit box in supporting riders Lorenzo Lanzi and Fonsi Nieto.

It will be the first time Laconi has ventured into the paddock since a horrific accident during the Kyalami round of the championship in May, the multiple race winner suffering serious injuries, including two fractured vertebrae, and spending almost a month in hospital before flying home to France.

Although Laconi is still on the road to recovery, the former factory Ducati and Kawasaki rider has resumed a regular training regime with a view to returning to the grid in the foreseeable future.

Laconi is a former race winner at Imola, claiming the spoils for Aprilia back in 2001. He remained the Italian manufacturer's last victory until Max Biaggi claimed a victory at Brno last month.
