Ducati seals 16th manufacturer crown

While the fight for the World Superbike Championship will go down to the wire for Noriyuki Haga in Portugal, Ducati were still able to celebrate one title at Magny-Cours after wrapping up the manufacturers' trophy for the second year in a row.

Bolstered by the performances of Haga and Ducati Xerox team-mate Michel Fabrizio over the course of the season, as well as the efforts of its strong privateer contingent, victory for the Japanese rider in the second race of the day was enough to ensure another title for the Italian firm.

Defending its crown from 2008, the success signals an unprecedented 16th manufacturers' title for Ducati in 22 years. Brought into context, Honda is the next most coveted brand with just five titles, while Suzuki and Kawasaki also share a victory apiece.

While it was achieved despite Haga and Fabrizio having scored less wins (ten with two races remaining) between them than Yamaha's Ben Spies has managed by himself this season, Ducati's greater depth ensures they have been the dominant force throughout the year.

“Today was a great sporting day for Ducati and the results demonstrate once again that technology, combined with the passion and determination of those who “never give up”, allow us to achieve important goals such as today's victories,” said Ducati president Gabriele Del Torchio.

“A big thank you to the entire factory and to everyone in Ducati Corse. Thanks to the Superbike team that gives us our sixteenth World title, and to the Junior Team that, for the third consecutive year, has won the Superstock 1000 Championship, confirming the technological supremacy of the Ducati 1198, a winner right from its debut.

“I would like to dedicate these victories to the entire family of Ducatisti, who, with their passion and enthusiasm, support us in our decisions and in our endeavours, whether the outcomes are good or bad. If we are World Champions, it is thanks to each and every one of them.”

Lets see. 1988 1000cc twins versus 750cc inline fours. That computes to a 25% displacement advantage.
Honda comes out with a VTR1000/RC51 and wins the championship the first year.

Then we get to 2008 where Ducati wants 1200cc's to compete with 1000cc's.

Ducati needs to pray that the Japanese maufacturers do not decide they will fight fire with fire and make this an apples to apples comparision.
I like Ducs. But them constantly moving the bar to give themselves an advantage is no difference in philosopy. Give me a break.
