WSS: Ellison, Gino Rea testing for Yamaha

James Ellison, Gino Rea and Anthony West will test for Yamaha at the two-day post season World Supersport test in Portugal
James Ellison will be amongst the riders testing at Portimao after being invited to sample Cal Crutchlow's title-winning Yamaha SSP R6 machine.

The British Superbike runner-up is one of several riders taking part in tests across just three Supersport teams – Yamaha, Ten Kate Honda and Kawasaki Provec -, the Briton being joined by countryman and new Superstock 600 champion Gino Rea.

Having been dropped from cash-strapped Stiggy Racing prior to the final round, Anthony West will also ride the R6, along with Martin Cardenas, the Colombian having impressed on his debut outing with Veidec Honda at the weekend.

Despite reports suggesting Yamaha were on the cusp of exiting the Supersport class, their title win over the weekend has apparently prompted a re-think for next season.

Ten Kate Honda, meanwhile, will test Kenan Sofuoglu – already confirmed to ride for them in 2010 -, Yamaha rider Michele Pirro and its Superstock 1000 entry Maxime Berger.

Kawasaki will test existing riders Joan Lascorz, and Katsuaki Fujiwara, as well as World Superbike exiles Broc Parkes and David Salom.

Mick - Brookes has probably signed with HM Plant again and I've got a feeling that Hill will be snapped up by Shaun Muir. Easton and Hill will be a formidable pairing next season, instead of Easton and Karl the boozehound.

And the rumours are that Hodgson will be involved in the BMW effort next season, hopefully with Richard Cooper as I doubt Hodgson could do enough on his own to develop the bike, whereas Copper has already done plenty for BMW and has many years ahead of him.
