Cal Crutchlow's seamless transition back to Superbike machinery continued into the second day of testing at Portimao, the World Supersport champion getting amongst the pace setters yet again.

Much has been said about James Toseland's debut aboard the Yamaha R1, but it was Crutchlow who proved to be the quicker of the debutants, setting the third fastest time with a lap of 1min 42.115secs – just three tenths slower than Jonathan Rea.

Already lapping faster than new World Superbike champion Ben Spies managed over the race weekend, former British Superbike race winner Crutchlow was happy with his maiden outing aboard the 'big-bang' machine.

“A good enough second day for us again. I think we've worked hard looking at a few different things with the shocks. We haven't changed that much yet so we've got some work to do.

“We've changed a couple of things and had a play around with the electronics which has been good. Hopefully we'll keep working hard, the team has done a good job and I'm pleased with the first test.”

Coming just a few days after wrapping up the World Supersport title in his rookie season, Crutchlow's impressive first turn with Yamaha WSB certainly impressed new team manager Massimo Meregalli.

“Cal's side went very well, he improved quite a lot and was impressive. We are very satisfied. Now we will decide if we need another test before January which we'll confirm when we go home to give the riders the possibility to have some more time on the bike.
