Confident Guintoli counting days until start of season

25 January 2010

Sylvain Guintoli cannot wait to begin racing after posting positive results during the first World Superbikes test of the year at Portimao.

The former MotoGP rider, who raced in the British Superbike Championship in 2009, embarks on only his second season of Superbike racing this year, but is already showing a swift adaptation to the rigours of international competition.

Featuring inside the top ten in all but one session, Guintoli was comfortably the second quickest World Superbike rookie on test, behind Cal Crutchlow but ahead of former BSB rival Leon Camier.

With this in mind, Guintoli is looking forward to getting the season underway at Phillip Island in just over a month's time, where he expects both himself and the Suzuki Alstare team to be competitive.

“We started these tests with a lot of work to look forward to and I am happy because we have done a lot of good work and we are now already a stage where I feel I can race this bike,” he said. “In dry conditions, we found the best setting for the bike that suits me and one that makes me happy and comfortable.

“The wet was good because, once again, we found a good set-up and I was again able to feel comfortable and ride the bike easily. Today, the track was not in such good condition and it also was quite windy in the afternoon.

“I didn't feel it had as much grip as the first day, but in the end it didn't matter so much because we achieved what we wanted to do and ended with very good feelings. I am very happy with the bike and the team and now all I want to do is start racing!”
