'Super-sub' Morais to replace Parkes at Echo for Portimão

23 March 2010

It has been confirmed that Sheridan Morais will stand in for the injured Broc Parkes at Echo CRS Honda for the second round of the 2010 World Superbike Championship at Portimão in Portugal this coming weekend – and quite possibly for round three in Valencia too.

Long-time Kawasaki rider Morais has gained something of a 'super-sub' reputation in recent campaigns, having replaced the similarly injured Makoto Tamada at the factory WSBK outfit last season on home turf in South Africa and again later in the year at Magny-Cours in France – somewhat ironically, alongside Parkes, who he outperformed in both races in front of his partisan supporters.

The Johannesburg native achieved a best result of eleventh at Kyalami, and also competed as a 'Wild Card' entry for the Japanese manufacturer at Brands Hatch in the British Superbike Championship, taking two top ten finishes from three starts.

Morais is currently racing for Aprilia in the South African Superbike Championship, which he has previously won. The 25-year-old's solid experience in Superbikes, Supersport and Superstock should help him to quickly acclimatise to Echo CRS' Honda CBR 1000RR, as he bids to help the WSBK 'rookies' to progress up the grid.

Parkes broke the tibia in his right leg in a pre-season training accident, and was substituted by countryman and BSB regular Josh Brookes for the curtain-raising outing at Phillip Island last month, with the Australian scraping a couple of points for a battling 14th position in race two.
