WSS: Sofuoglu hits back for Honda

10 April 2010

Having allowed Kawasaki to dominate proceedings throughout the first day of World Supersport action at Valencia, Kenan Sofuoglu struck back for Honda during second free practice as he got closer to the lap record.

The Turk was only seventh fastest in provisional qualifying, but hinted at a charge ahead of this afternoon's deciding session by improving his time by 1.5secs to go fastest in FP2 – just over a tenth slower than Cal Crutchlow's lap record.

Provisional pole sitter Katsuaki Fujiwara kept a close watching brief in second position on the Kawasaki, albeit with a slower lap time than he managed during qualifying.

In third position, local rider David Salom continued to impress on the Triumph to make it three manufacturers inside the top three, ahead of fellow Spaniard Joan Lascorz and the second Ten Kate Honda of Michele Pirro.

Eugene Laverty was almost a second adrift of Sofuoglu in sixth position, ahead of Chaz Davies, Fabien Foret, Jason Di Salvo and Alexander Lundh, the Swede making his first appearance inside the top ten this season aboard the Cresto Guide Honda.

Second qualification to decide the grid takes place later today.
