Morais close to factory Aprilia ride at Kyalami

The South African Superbike champion will ride a third Aprilia Alitalia on home soil at Kyalami subject to him securing the necessary funding
Sheridan Morais is close to a deal that will see him ride an official factory-prepared Aprilia Alitalia on home soil at Kyalami, it has been revealed.

Morais currently rides an RSV-4 in the South African Superbike Championship, as prepared by Emtek Racing, but will get the chance to ride a fully-fledged factory machine at the Gauteng circuit should he acquire the necessary funds.

Indeed, Morais is awaiting approval from the government for reserve bank foreign exchange that will give him the funding he needs to compete over the weekend.

Morais, who has already completed two World Superbike meetings this season as a substitute for Broc Parkes at Echo CRS Honda, made his series debut aboard a works Kawasaki in 2009, the 25-year-old raising eyebrows by qualifying just outside the top ten and securing two solid points' finishes.

Set to team up with regular riders Max Biaggi and Leon Camier, the race will have added poignancy for Morais as it will be a potential Kyalami swansong for him, the circuit having had its motorsport contracts cancelled from the end of the 2010 season.
