Talmacsi confirms Pedercini Kawasaki test
5 January 2011
Former 125GP champion Gabor Talmacsi has confirmed he will sample a Superbike for the first time when he tests with Pedercini Kawasaki at Sepang with a view to a possible switch to the world championship.
The Hungarian rider, who started twelve MotoGP races for Scot Honda during the 2009 season, has been left without a ride for 2011 after his proposed switch to the Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas Moto2 team was scuppered by the its recent decision to withdraw.
With few opportunities remaining on the Moto2 grid, the series in which Talmacsi finished sixth overall in 2010, he has instead turned his attentions to World Superbikes, where he is one of a handful of riders in the frame to join Roberto Rolfo at the satellite Kawasaki team.
While his motivation to join the team has been questioned by his recent admittance that Superbike racing is little-known in his native Hungary compared with MotoGP, he is nonetheless keen to sample the ZX-10R before discounting the move altogether.
Posting a message on his personal website, Talmacsi will be one of several riders to partake in the four-day Malaysian test, starting on 10th January. The 29-year-old also revealed that, should he not pursue a deal in World Superbikes, he will consider retirement from the sport.
