Badovini: I need Toseland's input

29 March 2011

Ayrton Badovini is wishing James Toseland a swift return to World Superbike action so that he can contribute to BMW Italia's development work, this despite the Italian making into the top ten at Donington Park.

The reigning Superstock 1000 champion, riding solo for BMW Italia following Toseland's withdrawal through injury, showed flashes of pace over the course of the weekend but would fail to qualify for Superpole and finished just 13th in race one.

Nonetheless, changes to the bike between races transformed Badovini's machine for race two as he made steady progress from his 17th position on the grid, eventually culminating in a ninth place finish – his first top ten result since 2008.

However, while it is a good step in the right direction for the satellite BMW team, Badovini says Toseland's input remains crucial to the team's progress.

"I am very pleased with the progress the team has made, although we know that we still have a lot of work to do, especially with regard to the lap times and start. In race 1 we had a number of problems but in race two, thanks to the changes made, I kept a very fast race pace, even managing to get under 1min 30secs a few laps from the end.

“I thank the team for its support and continued belief in me. I hope James returns soon because it's hard work and I need his input."
