Badovini 'not completely satisfied’ despite maiden top six

10 May 2011

Ayrton Badovini has expressed his frustration at not achieving better results during the latest World Superbike round at Monza, despite improving his personal best with a top six finish on home soil.

The BMW Italia rider shone throughout his home event, posting top five times during free practice before cracking the top ten in Superpole with ninth position on the grid.

However, Badovini was made to work hard during both encounters when ran off the track during race one, before getting caught up in the melee at the start of race two, incidents that twice left him in the bottom half of the field.

Nonetheless, the Italian fought back on both occasions, finishing 11th in race one – having been last at one stage – before battling up from 14th to sixth in race two. Even so, despite scoring his best-ever result at WSBK level, Badovini felt he lost the opportunity to finish even higher.

"I am not happy, or perhaps not completely satisfied,” he said. “On the straight in race one of the first lap I was penalised a lot, and it was hard to stay focused to finish the race. In race two, I lost several positions, and contact with the lead group, while avoiding the falling riders. I got back to sixth position but made up with the times during the race.

“I could have fought for a few positions ahead without problems. We take this result this weekend as a reference point from where we can improve and be more competitive. "
