Toseland returns, Lanzi on standby

6 July 2011

James Toseland has confirmed he will attempt a return to World Superbike Championship competition at Brno, though BMW Italia is prepared for the possibility that he won't be able to race.

Toseland has battled a persistent wrist injury since breaking it in March, an ailment that has seen him complete just one full race weekend since the opening round of the season.

Having been advised to skip the Italian and Spanish rounds, Toseland will ride the BMW Italia S1000RR at Brno during free practice and provisional qualifying on the Friday before deciding whether he will continue for the remainder of the weekend.

Should he be unable to race, Lorenzo Lanzi – who deputised for Toseland at Misano and Motorland Aragon – will assume his seat.

"James will return in Brno and will try riding in the first practice on Friday to see how his wrist responds,” declared sporting director Serafino Foti. “If it goes well on a long run he will race. Otherwise, Lorenzo Lanzi will replace him as early as the second session. We all hope that James is in good condition so that he can resume his season that was interrupted after the first few races.”
