Badovini rolls double six to scale new heights

11 July 2011

Ayrton Badovini has risen to eighth position in the World Superbike Championship standings after another successful race day at Brno yielded a pair of sixth place finishes.

Though fourth still represents his best WSBK finish, Badovini's run to sixth place at Brno represents arguably his finest performance, the BMW Italia rider achieving the results without the aid of a high attrition rate.

Indeed, despite poor starts leaving him outside the top ten on both occasions, Badovini fought his way to the front of the mid-pack to finish comfortably ahead of several notable riders, not least factory BMW rider Leon Haslam.

Extending his consecutive run of top ten finishes to nine, Badovini has been rewarded with a move to eighth in the overall standings, while his efforts are also helping BMW consolidate fourth in the manufacturers' reckoning.

"We managed to finish the weekend with two sixth places and, objectively, I think this is the best that we could realistically achieve,” he said. “The result is important because it moves us up two positions in the standings.

“My confidence with the bike is growing and I am increasingly at ease in dealing with the competitors on track at this level, which for me represents a significant development from the beginning of the season."
