Charging Lascorz assumes top Kawasaki status

12 July 2011

Joan Lascorz is now Kawasaki's best-placed representative in the World Superbike Championship standings after turning around a dismal qualifying performance to record a pair of top ten finishes at Brno.

The Spaniard came into the weekend looking to continue a decent run of form that saw him finish inside the top ten in both races at Misano and Motorland Aragon. However, with the changing track conditions consigning him to a lowly 19th at the end of Q2, Lascorz found himself well on the back foot heading into the races.

Nonetheless, the Spaniard battled his way up the order to not only crack the top ten with ninth and eighth place finishes, but to also finish well ahead of team-mate Tom Sykes, who had started eighth.

Responsible for taking Kawasaki past its 2010 points' total, Lascorz is also now ahead of Sykes in the overall standings and just six points' shy of an top ten position.

"To go from 19th into the top ten twice is very good in the circumstances. They were hard races and I had to pass a lot of other riders. We made an improvement in race one by changing the traction control a little and in the second race I only changed the suspension a small amount, based on my experiences of race one. The tyres were the same and I felt very good through the second race."

Lascorz's results have also seen Kawasaki overtake Honda in the manufacturers' standings.
