Seven front rows but no pole position for Laverty

15 October 2011

Eugene Laverty's first season in the World Superbike Championship will not include a pole position after he was once again beaten to the top spot in Superpole at Portimao.

The Irishman has been a force over a single lap this year, the Yamaha rider notching up his seventh front row start in 13 attempts this year around the Portuguese circuit.

Despite his impressive performances, in what remains his rookie season on a Superbike, not one has been quite good enough from pole position, Laverty settling for third position on this occasion.

Even so, the performance does give him a good opportunity to beat Max Biaggi to third in the standings after his rival could only manage 17th.

“I would like gotten pole position, but being on the front row is the main thing. I wasn't going to beat Jonathan with that lap, that was something special, but we're looking strong for the races tomorrow.”
