Chaz Davies tests World Superbike... Aprilia!

3 November 2011

Reigning World Supersport champion Chaz Davies and his ParkinGO team were testing World Superbike machinery at Portimao yesterday (Wednesday) - but with Aprilia rather than Ducati!

The news was broken by Motosprint.it, which reports that Aprilia has tempted the team by offering the same level of factory support allocated to the PATA team.

ParkinGO had been planning to run Ducati 1198s in WSBK next year, but the recent twin-cylinder weight change could also be a factor in switching to Aprilia.

Eugene Laverty, who tested with PATA after the 2011 season finale, was recently announced as riding for the official Aprilia Racing squad, alongside Max Biaggi.

However, PATA - which ran Noriyuki Haga this season - intends to continue and is said to be trying to sign MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet.

The new one-bike rule in WSBK might also mean an increase in 'official' bikes, depending on the amount of development for 2012.
