Melandri ‘encouraged’ but more to do

Marco Melandri seeking more corner entry confidence from his BMW S1000RR
New factory BMW World Superbike rider Marco Melandri was 'encouraged' by the latest S1000RR developments during a two-day test at Valencia, but warned more needs to be done.

Riding alongside team-mate Leon Haslam, Melandri got his first chance to try the latest engine and electronic software during the test.

"The testing of the updated electronics was very encouraging," said the MotoGP and WSBK title runner-up, who has switched from Yamaha for his second season in the class.

“We checked if everything is working well before we go to Australia, and the result was good. Of course we still need to improve in some areas.

“In entering corners, I still need some more confidence on the bike in order to push properly, but we are all working very hard and I am sure that we will find a solution at the next test in Australia.

“Phillip Island is not an easy track, so it is important to be confident with the bike to be able to go into the corners very fast.

"In the next two weeks I will keep in contact with the team and we will analyse the data from the test to prepare for Australia. In addition, I will do a lot of training."

BMW will take part in two tests at Phillip Island before the season-opening round on February 24-26.

re: "Maybe it will take a decade before they realise which electronics are the best."

that's a myth perpetuated by the uninformed. neither the resources of mag-mar, motec, 2D, and Pi combined can hold a candle to bavaria.
