Laverty bullish about 2012 chances

Eugene Laverty will set his immediate sights on wins and the podium during his first races for Aprilia, before considering his title credentials.
Eugene Laverty is refusing to make any explicit predictions ahead of his second season in the World Superbike Championship, but remains confident he will be a reckoned force in 2012.

The Irishman makes the switch to Aprilia for his second year in the series following the withdrawal of Yamaha, with whom he took two wins and six podiums on the way to fourth overall.

Having already caused a stir with his swift turn in post-season testing, Laverty, who was officially presented by the Aprilia team at a launch in Italy today, heads into the new season as one of the anticipated title favourites.

However, the man himself is maintaining a modest stance ahead of his Aprilia debut, insisting his primary focus is reaching the podium and scoring as many wins as possible.

“In my second Superbike season, coming off of a good début, I won't make a secret of the fact that I'd like to make it to the podium often and take home some victories.

“We'll see about the rest as we go along. If everything goes smoothly I think the year will bring us some nice satisfaction. It's too early for predictions... we'll talk again in a few months!”

Speaking of Hopper, I think he'll be rubbing fairings with Laverty this year. I expect big things from both of them, at least top 5 placings at season end.
