Althea Racing's general manager Genesio Bevilacqua has again hit out at the 6kg weight hike imposed on the 1200cc Ducati 1198 in
World Superbikes this season.

Carlos Checa ended the two-day Phillip Island test with the second fastest time overall behind Kawasaki's Tom Sykes, but Bevilacqua is keen to point out that the increased weight has restricted the team's progress.
“These two days have been extremely useful, giving us the chance to better understand many things that will help us in our future work. Carlos has impressed us with his times even though we realise that there will be stiff competition as always,” he said.
“We've seen that the extra 6kg are difficult to manage and limit us particularly when it comes to braking and manageability. The extra weight also means that the tyres wear more quickly but we count on Carlos' experience to overcome this significant handicap that the new regulation has given us.”
Checa's team-mate Davide Giugliano was seventh fastest and his performance so far has pleased Bevilacqua.
“I'm happy and had no doubts about Davide and the progress he has made. Today he was able to ride with more confidence and his lap times confirm that, even though he's young, he has begun to understand that this is a man's game,” he said.
“His objective, naturally, is to learn all of the tricks of the trade but he will be a strong rival for many. We all have confidence in him and will work hard to give him all the support he needs.”
