Leon Haslam has a screw inserted into his leg, but is yet to confirm whether he will make the opening round at Phillip Island.
Leon Haslam has had a screw inserted into his tibia during surgery to correct a leg injury sustained during pre-season testing earlier this weekend.
The Briton suffered the ailment in the accident at Phillip Island during Monday's test session, but has been forced to wait until the day before World Superbike action gets underway to be operated on.
Despite the proximity to the opening round, Haslam has maintained confidence that he will still be able to race, though he has less than 24 hours to make a sufficient recovery before action gets underway for the 2012 season opener.
Praising the work of the medical team around him, Haslam will now return to Phillip Island to consider whether he will be able to ride the BMW.
“All done, went well but feel a bit like I have had 50 vodkas,” he wrote on
Twitter. “Soon be on my way back to the island. I just want to thank everyone for all there good thoughts and also everyone involved who have sorted me out... Thank you...”
