Biaggi: No margin for error in title fight
Aprilia's Max Biaggi heads to this weekend's Assen round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship aiming to overturn Carlos Checa's slim title lead.

Reigning champion Checa (Ducati) moved ahead of former champion Biaggi by four points after a double-victory last time out at Imola, when Biaggi managed only a pair of fourth places.

The Roman believes there is no room for error in this year's championship, which presently sees the top three riders - Checa to Kawasaki's Tom Sykes - covered by a mere six points.

“Racing at Assen is always special,” said Biaggi, who finished second in both Dutch races last year, “and that is why the races here are always memorable. It would seem that the weather wants to rain on our parade, but we'll wait for Sunday and keep our fingers crossed.

“After an excellent start in Australia we struggled a bit at Imola, in any case managing not to lose sight of the frontrunners. This weekend we will need to solidify our lead, without losing focus even for one minute: from what we've seen so far, there is no margin for even the smallest error.

“The track is demanding but I like it. It's technical and flows well, and demonstrating competitiveness here would be excellent confirmation for the rest of the season”.

Imola was probably one of Max's weakest tracks. That said, hes going to have to really frustrate Checa in to mistakes and out pace Sykes in order to keep clawing points off those guys. Right now that Aprilia, despite its performance in Australia, looks about third rate compared to the Kawasaki and Ducati.

I think looking at where Laverty finishes on his bike in the next few rounds will serve as a good litmus test for the true potential of that bike, and how much better Max is making it look.

Hoping Max has the good way going in to Assen.
