Effenbert Liberty won’t replace McCormick

2 May 2012

Effenbert Liberty Ducati will revert back to three bikes for the upcoming rounds of the 2012 World Superbike Championship whilst its rider Brett McCormick recovers from injury.

The Czech team, which secured its first-ever WSBK victory last time out at Assen courtesy of Sylvain Guintoli, had its celebrations tempered by a serious accident involving McCormick, the Canadian sustaining a series of injuries to his vertebra.

Though McCormick has been told he will make a full recovery, his return to action remains several months away, raising speculation that Effenbert Liberty will seek a replacement.

However, the team, which already prepares Ducatis for Guintoli, Jakub Smrz and Maxime Berger, has now confirmed that it won't source another rider to take over the bike, with team owner Mario Bertuccio declaring that 'the fourth Ducati belongs to Brett'.

McCormick was only competing in his second WSBK event following his debut at Imola, the former Canadian Superbike Champion handed the ride that was originally offered to former champion Troy Bayliss.
