Laverty makes mark with another podium

7 May 2012

Eugene Laverty is continuing to creep back up the World Superbike Championship order after notching up a second consecutive podium at Monza.

The Irishman has been steadily getting to grips with the Aprilia RSV-4 in recent races and though he is yet to qualify on the front two rows so far this season, he quickly established himself as a front runner from tenth on the grid at Monza.

While the difficult weather would subsequently condition the outcome of the races, Laverty was still pleased with his third place finish in the truncated second encounter, not least because he finished ahead of team-mate Max Biaggi.

“We were really fast here in Monza in the dry and I expected to do well. Unfortunately, after race one was rightly cancelled, we started out for race two without the certainty of being able to finish, and that's exactly what happened.

“After a good start and overtaking a few positions, I was happy to have Leon Haslam in front of me, an expert rider who interprets difficult conditions well. I'm pleased with the third place - my second podium in a row - and now we'll head for Donington where I hope to continue my positive trend.”
