Optimistic Aoyama set for ‘home’ race

27 June 2012

Hiroshi Aoyama is hoping his 'home' event of Motorland Aragon will give him a sufficient boost to help turn around a maiden World Superbike Championship season that has thus far failed to live up to expectations.

The former 250GP World Champion has struggled to get acquainted with the premier Superbike series and currently languishes 16th overall with a best finish of eighth position, achieved at the Phillip Island opener.

Nonetheless, Aoyama comes to round eight at Aragon having tested extensively at Assen, even if he suffered a high-speed crash, while the absence of a Japanese round means this Spanish event acts as the Barcelona resident's home event.

“I had a very fast crash at the Assen test but we felt that we found some development and got a good feeling with the bike, especially with the stability on entering the corner. I hope that we can continue this progress in Spain this weekend.

“Aragon is a bit like my home race because it is quite close to Barcelona where I live. I have raced there before so I will try my best with my team to make some good races this weekend.”
