First Aprilia front row for buoyant Laverty

30 June 2012

Eugene Laverty will start on the front row of a World Superbike Championship race for the first time this season after qualifying a vastly improved third on the grid at Motorland Aragon.

Laverty starred during qualifying throughout his maiden 2011 season, the Irishman managing seven front row starts with Yamaha, but he has struggled to replicate that form since switching to Aprilia for 2012.

Nonetheless, Laverty has been competitive throughout the Aragon weekend, a status he would go on to consolidate by reaching SP3 for only the second time this season before sealing a spot on the front row alongside team-mate Max Biaggi.

“The first row is definitely a good result but the most satisfying thing is the pace we've demonstrated during all the practice sessions,” he said. “We did some work on the bike to solve the problems we had during the last few races and for the moment the results are quite encouraging.

“Things will be complicated tomorrow, but starting from the front is always an advantage, especially when there are several riders with a similar race pace.”
