HAVE YOUR SAY: Who deserves Portimao plaudits?

24 September 2012

Tom Sykes (Factory Kawasaki) and Eugene Laverty (Factory Aprilia) claimed a victory apiece in a thrilling penultimate round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship at Portimao in Portugal on Sunday.

Aprilia's Max Biaggi put one hand on the world crown as he capitalised on the downfall of key title rival and BMW star Marco Melandri, who was ruled out of both races following a fall in the first.

It was Laverty's maiden victory on the Aprilia, although he had to hold off a determined challenge from fellow Northern Ireland rider Jonathan Rea (Ten Kate Honda) on the final lap of race two.
