Last chance for Haslam’s first BMW win

3 October 2012

Leon Haslam has just one round remaining to bring his two-year tenure at BMW to a conclusion with a long-awaited first victory with the manufacturer.

The British rider hasn't stood on the WSBK podium since the mid-season round at Misano, while poor fortune in recent rounds has consigned him to finishing no higher than seventh in the overall standings – two spots lower than he managed during his maiden BMW campaign.

Nonetheless, Haslam – who has already been confirmed as switching to PATA Honda for 2013 – is optimistic that he can end his time at BMW with the win he has been searching for since he joined forces with the German marque at the start of 2011.

“The recent race weekends have been difficult for me, so hopefully now my luck will change,” he said. “I know we have had the pace to win races over the last three, four rounds. It is my last race weekend for BMW Motorrad, so I obviously want to finish strongly and, if possible, with a win. We will give 110 per cent, as always.

“Magny-Cours always comes late on in the season so it is normally pretty cold. The track has a lot of hairpins and tight corners but also has a very fast back straight. It is quite technical and the weather is always a key point there, as the temperatures have been low there in recent years.”

Despite being destined to finish lower in 2012 than he did in 2011, Haslam has already scored five podiums this season, compared to three last year.
