Eugene Laverty's goal at Magny-Cours this weekend is to pip fellow Northern Irishman Jonathan Rea to fifth in the final World Superbike Championship standings.
The works Aprilia rider, who edged Rea to claim his maiden victory on the RSV4 at Portimao in Portugal at the penultimate round, is 14 points behind the Honda rider.
Describing his triumph last time out as a “huge relief”, Laverty has set his sights on winning again in France on Sunday as he attempts to deny Rea fifth position at the conclusion of the 2012 championship.
“We've reached the final round of the season at Magny Cours in sixth position in the championship,” Laverty said.
“I'm within reach of achieving fifth overall and so that is my aim for the weekend.
“The first half of the season was disappointing but since then we've finished on the podium several times.
“It was a huge relief to win last time out in Portimao and it was nice to reward the team for all their hard work in turning our season around,” he added.
“Another victory would be great so let's see what the weekend brings.”
Laverty has enjoyed a strong finish to the season, playing a key role in strengthening Aprilia's bid on the Manufacturer's title.

Max Biaggi is poised to win back the World Superbike crown following his championship success in 2010.
