Fabrizio, Red Devils head Aprilia challenge

19 February 2013

Michel Fabrizio gave his Aprilia counterparts something to consider during two days of World Superbike testing at Phillip Island as he took his privateer RSV4 to the fifth fastest time overall, ahead of the factory machines.

Fabrizio, the most experienced WSBK rider on the grid, switches to Red Devils Roma for his eighth consecutive season of WSBK racing, the team in turn moving over from Ducati to Aprilia machinery.

Despite the new collaboration, Fabrizio has proven immediately fast on the RSV-4, getting well amongst the front runners in testing to end the two days inside the top five, ahead of Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli (8th and 10th) and fellow satellite Aprilia rider Davide Giugliano (9th).

A strong start to his new venture, four-time WSBK race winner Fabrizio is confident he can translate his practice pace into a similarly impressive race performance.

“I am happy the way these two days of testing went. The thing that pleases me the most is our consistent performance and the bike, which I find very powerful. We still have to work on the choice of tyres which will be determined by the very different climatic conditions these days.

“We worked well both yesterday and today and we also know that anything can happen during the race, but we are ready and I am looking forward to getting back on track on Friday, in order to confirm the positive result of this test.”
