Jules Cluzel says he must find a way to engage with the Phillip Island circuit after suffering another costly accident during pre-season testing.

Rookie Cluzel has endured mixed fortunes since arriving in Australia, the Frenchman belying his lack of experience by proving immediately fast on the Fixi Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000, but also suffering a series of tumbles that have left him scratching his head.

Indeed, having just completed a lap time that placed him fourth on the afternoon timesheets, Cluzel proceeded to lose the rear-end of his bike at the final corner, sending both man and machine down. Though Cluzel, who hurt himself in another accident last week, was unharmed by the accident, the heavy damage would rule him out of the final portion of the test.

Blaming a lack of feel on the newly resurfaced circuit, Cluzel, who would still end the test a creditable 11th, admits he needs to find a solution to his problems ahead of the upcoming race weekend.

"We improved this afternoon and the feeling was much better with the front,” the 2012 World Supersport runner-up said. “We tried a different rear tyre and the feeling also improved, but on lap three I lost the rear on the last corner. I don't know why it happened and it's difficult to explain because I was little bit slower and with less throttle. I think the asphalt is really strange here and I am continuing to learn this the hard way!

“I have no feeling for it, so we have to continue to find some and stop the crashes, because they have been all the same. I have lost the rear and we need to understand why this is happening. I hope we can improve something in the race weekend, because my feeling for the bike is becoming more positive."

Easy to understand, newly laid tar will continue to ooze or sweat thin films of oil for quite a while anything between 3 to 6 months depending on the grade of bitumen used and the ambient temperatures. Lets hope that this does not spoil the racing.
