Battered Badovini targets top ten

20 February 2013

Ayrton Badovini believes he can break into the top ten at Phillip Island this weekend despite suffering with a hematoma near his liver.

The Alstare Ducati World Superbike rider was hit with the setback in a crash during the private two-day test at the Australian circuit last week.

Badovini missed the official test this week as a result, only completing a few laps on Tuesday, but hopes to recover sufficiently to play his role in giving the new Panigale 1199R a successful race debut on Sunday.

The Italian's best result to date at Phillip Island is a 14th place finish in 2011 but Badovini reckons the top ten is a possibility depending on his physical condition.

“Everything depends on how I feel and it's too early to say what's going to happen on race day,” said Badovini.

“If my condition is OK and I can push hard then I think I can be in the top ten at least.

“I think we have a good base setting and everything we do at the moment seems to be taking us in the right direction,” he added.

“This will be my first race on a twin-cylinder bike, but I know that this circuit generally suits Ducati bikes, so I'm hoping to have a good couple of races.”
