Injured Badovini withdraws from opening round
Ayrton Badovini has been forced to withdraw from the opening round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship after sustaining a broken foot in an accident during FP1.

The Italian was already coming into the race weekend suffering with a haematoma on his liver, the result of a pre-season accident that also saw his Alstare Ducati go up in flames.

Undeterred, Badovini planned to race on this weekend, despite doctors' concerns his ailment could take a month to full heal, but his poor luck would strike again during FP1 when a crash at the final corner left him nursing a foot injury.

That injury has since been diagnosed as a broken foot, forcing the former Superstock 1000 champion to withdraw from the first event of the season.

Badovini's absence means Carlos Checa will fly the flag for Alstare Ducati at Phillip Island this weekend.
