Successful shoulder surgery for Melandri
Marco Melandri is confident he can fully concentrate on the remainder of his World Superbike Championship season after undergoing surgery on his troublesome shoulder.

Taking advantage of the prolonged six week gap between the first round in Australia, where he scored a podium, and the next event at Motorland Aragon, Melandri went under the knife in his native Italy to correct the shoulder pain that has hampered him throughout the winter.

In an arthroscopic procedure, Dr. Porcellini cleaned adhesions and arthritis to the acromion (the outer end of the scapula to which the collarbone is attached).

Though Melandri admits he may not be '100 per cent' fit for the next event in Spain, the BMW GoldBet Motorrad rider says he will certainly be present nonetheless.

“I am very happy. The examinations showed that there is no injury to the shoulder but that the pain only had a small cause. Dr. Porcelli and his team did a very good job. With the surgery they have solved the problems which have been causing me pain. Now I am confident I will get well very soon.

“At the beginning of next week I will start with passive training on the shoulder and by the middle of March I will start to train in the pool. I will back in Aragon and even if I am not really 100% fit by then, for sure I will not have any pain in my shoulder.”

Just keep finishing races and getting points. A shame he was almost taken out twice at PI, seems as though hes got some of that bad luck hanging around his neck from last year. Hope he shakes it off and gets as much or more out of his tires as the Aprilia. Brave fight for 3rd last round.
