WSBK Aragon 2013: Fully fit Sykes ‘happier’ as Aragon looms

10 April 2013

Tom Sykes says he can look forward to the second round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship at Motorland Aragon after declaring himself 'happy' with his recovery from injury.

The Briton suffered with wrist and rib injuries during the opening event at Phillip Island in February following a crash during pre-season testing, but the prolonged gap between rounds has enabled him to make a full recovery.

Having given himself a work-out on the Kawasaki ZX-10R during private testing last week, where he was quickest of all, Sykes is now keen to get his season properly underway.

“Testing at Aragon last week was very important and now we have to look at our tyre options for the race weekend because we did not get the chance to do long runs right at the end. It was good to get out and ride at Motorland and the only thing I was not sure of before then was my physical condition.

“I am much happier now as I have woken up my arm muscles and my wrist feels better for being used properly at the tests. I am looking forward to race weekend now because what we tried at the tests has brought us some positives.”

Lap record holder Sykes started last year's Aragon race from pole position but could only manage a single eighth place finish. He picked up a pair of fifth place finishes at Phillip Island.
